Hurley Haywood
Hurley Haywood
A man who graciously entered the motorsports history books with a gentle smile and kind eyes, Hurley Haywood has the kind of glamour and style that befits a socialite of the age.
I knew that visiting Hurley at home in Saint Augustine would be a lovely experience, and his home truly reflects the kind of man he is. After we had a long conversation for the podcast, we went into his library/movie room to shoot the portraits.
It was perfect because on the wall behind him (that you can barely see in my images) was a a massive portrait semi-nude of Hurley as a young man taken by an artist that was a close family friend.
The lighting was minimal and hard to gauge whether I had the shot I wanted. However, that is part of the fun and when I got back to LA I realized I had captured him exactly as I had hoped!
The highest compliment from Hurley when he got the prints to be signed was that it looked like an Annie Leibovitz!
